With an astounding variety of products and a claim of over 300 franchise locations, CBD American Shaman is one of the most prolific CBD companies on the market.
The company makes all the standard CBD products like oils, capsules and gummies, but you will also find the most unique selection of other types of CBD products online. CBD American Shaman makes honey sticks and cookies, candies, tea, and even CBD popcorn. They produce topicals for pain as well as cosmetics, and they even make CBD products for all your pets—including horses.
CBD American Shaman touts a special wiped film distillation process that requires no solvents or additives and results in CBD that has been broken down into nano-particles. This creates a product that has a greater level of bioavailability (more efficient absorption).
The company’s merchandise is a little more expensive than average; but it claims that because CBD nanoparticles are more readily absorbed, customers will need to take less for the same effects.
An important note of warning with this company: A class action suit has been filed against CBD American Shaman, and the plaintiff is seeking damages because he sent a sample of the products he purchased from CBD American Shaman to the same lab that provided the original certificate of analysis (COA) displayed on the product pages, and test results indicated that the product’s exhibited COA was inaccurate.
The second set of lab results reported a dangerously high amount of heavy metals and biotoxins.
The class action suit has not been ruled upon as of the writing of this review. For any company we review, we always have a sample tested at an independent third-party lab as well. Our sample showed no heavy metals or pesticide residue.
- CBD produced with nanotechnology means a greater level of bioavailability and smaller amounts of CBD required
- Wide selection of full spectrum and CBD isolate products, giving customers enough options to find something that meets their needs
- Company-run hemp farming and distillation process gives CBD American Shaman the highest level of oversight
- High emphasis on caring for the needs of customers
- Brick-and-mortar locations increase accessibility of products
- Website is difficult to use and inconsistent; product pages are confusing
- Packaging is inconsistent, leading to questions of integrity
- A class-action suit is currently open, claiming that certificates of analysis have been falsified
Vincent Sanders of Kansas City founded CBD American Shaman in 2015, after he saw the way CBD helped one of his family members suffer less through a terminal illness. Sanders, however, has a criminal record, spending time in prison two decades ago for being involved in a multimillion dollar marijuana scheme.
The founder may have cleaned up his act with CBD American Shaman, getting on a more reputable path in the federally legal industrial hemp market, but his history and current business tactics raise suspicion. In addition to the class action suit mentioned above, Kirby of Ohio has filed a lawsuit claiming unethical recruitment of its door-to-door vacuum salesmen in CBD American Shaman’s pyramid-style franchise structure.
CBD American Shaman grows its own hemp, mostly on its 1,000 acre farm in Montana. The processing of its products happens almost entirely in-house, with a facility located on the same property as the farm itself.
The company uses a wiped film distillation process, and it sends all of its products off to a third-party lab to confirm purity and concentration. CBD American Shaman claims that all of its products are made with hemp that has been naturally and responsibly cultivated, however, the open class-action suit against the company claims otherwise.
Shipping and Returns
CBD American Shaman offers free shipping anywhere in the United States for all orders over $99.00. Shipping is standard USPS First Class Mail, and you must create an account to place any orders.
We ordered a CBD tincture from the company on a weekday, and American Shaman sent our package out the next day. It took a full seven days from the time we ordered to the time our package was delivered. No one wants to wait too long for their CBD, and American Shaman did a moderately good job of making sure it got to us in a timely manner.
The company does guarantee your full satisfaction with any product you purchase. You have 45 days to make a return of any item purchased from the website, or 30 days to make a return of items purchased at a franchise location. Any products purchased at an authorized retailer are subject to that retailer’s return policies.
CBD American Shaman’s Products
CBD American Shaman has a lengthy list of CBD oil products. However, what they have in product quantity, they lack in proper description. Most of the oils seem much like all the others and product pages do not specify how they’re different, so it’s hard to know exactly what you are getting.
For most of these products, you just have to look at the ingredients to see how each one differs from the others. You must select from 0.3% THC or no THC when placing your order, and it is unclear which formulas (full spectrum, broad spectrum or isolate) these products are made from. Product prices range from $34.99 to $144.99.
Water Soluble Full Spectrum Hemp Oil and Extra Strength Water Soluble Hemp Oil – These are the formulas made with nanotechnology to increase bioavailability. They contain purified water by reverse osmosis, concentrated cannabinoid and terpene rich hemp oil, and citric acid.
They are good for adding to food and beverages, and they come in a variety of flavors including cherry limeade, grape and lemon. It is not recommended to ingest these products without adding them to something else first. You can choose between 10mg, 15mg and 30mg of CBD per dose.
VG Cloud Tincture – This tincture contains vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol, along with natural and/or artificial flavoring, which is typically what vape juices are made from.
CBD American Shaman, however, states that the vegetable glycerin is said to make tinctures more palatable, therefore easier to hold under your tongue for longer. This tincture is available with or without THC, in 150mg or 300mg of CBD per bottle concentrations, and you can choose from several different flavors.
Terpene Rich Hemp Oil Tincture – This is made with CBD and hemp oil. Meant to be taken sublingually, the tincture comes in flavors like strawberry banana, cinnamon and natural. Choose between 0.3% THC and THC free formulas, and strengths of 150mg, 300mg, 400mg, or 750mg of CBD per bottle.
CBD American Shaman’s CBD capsules are not as varied as their oils. There is one kind, containing 15mg of ultra concentrated terpene rich hemp oil (CBD). It comes in two sizes: 30 or 60 capsules. The price for 30 is $59.99, while the price for 60 is $109.99.
Concentrated Hemp Oil Capsules – Each capsule contains 15mg of full spectrum CBD oil suspended in hemp oil extracted from stalks and stems, as well as MCT oil for better absorption. Great for on-the-go people who don’t have time to measure out their dose.
Just like their oils, American Shaman’s gummies come in quite a selection… but that selection is pretty pricey. With the cheapest option being $19.95 (and the other products hovering around $50 or $60) we’d expect some bang for our buck, but that may not be the case. Additionally, nothing is stated explicitly on the website about whether these are full spectrum, broad spectrum or isolate.
The only source for that information is the images of the packaging for each individual product, and occasionally buried descriptions further down on the page. All gummies listed here cost $49.95.
CBD Gourmet Gummies – Unlike the “regular” gummies, these ones come only in a package of 10, but they have 25mg of CBD each. The tricky part is knowing whether they’re full spectrum or isolate, because the images of the packages alternate.
Our best guess is that when you select how much THC (0.3% or no THC) you want in your gummies, you’re actually answering the question “full spectrum or isolate?” These gourmet gummies come in watermelon, blue raspberry, blackberry, and tropical; all flavors are available in sweet or sour variations.
Sugar Free CBD Gourmet Gummies – The name says it all, really. It is explicitly stated that these are full spectrum gummies, in contrast to their unclear sibling above.
They come in the same 10 pack with 25 mg of CBD. The flavor selection includes blue raspberry and watermelon (without the sour or sweet options… so who knows which one you’ll get?) as well as orange. Instead of sugar, xylitol sweetens these alternatives.
CBD Energy Gummies – These gummies are akin to the gourmet gummies, in that they come in a package of 10 and contain 25mg of CBD.
Unlike the other gummies though, American Shaman CBD Energy Gummies only come in full spectrum (noted in the last question on the sale page… but it’s still a little dodgy) and lemon flavor. But what gives them their energy boost? A kick of vitamins B12, B6 and green tea.
Once again, we encounter a lack of clarity on what type of CBD is being used in these products, so dive in with caution. Product prices start at $10 and go up to $109.99, so there’s something for almost every wallet size. Here, we feature the most unique items available on the website.
CBD Face Cream – In every ounce of this face cream, there are 30mg of CBD. While there are obviously other ingredients that distinguish this from American Shaman Body Lotion, we aren’t sure what they are. There are discrepancies between the website’s list of ingredients and the image of the package’s list of ingredients. In any case, it has glowing reviews from customers.
Terpene Rich Topical Serum – Think of this like the water soluble oil, but you shouldn’t eat it. In fact, please don’t. This serum contains dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to help penetrate the skin and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400, which is used in a lot of pharmaceuticals for numerous reasons. CBD American Shaman Topical Serum has 30mg of CBD per milliliter and comes in three container options: a 15mL bottle, a sample size 5mL bottle, or a handy-dandy 10 mL roll-on bottle.
CBD Under Eye Serum – We aren’t entirely sure what the difference between this and the roll-on topical serum is. The ingredient list is the same, aside from the order of PEG-400 and DMSO being switched. The CBD/mL content is exactly the same as well.
American Shaman offers treats and tinctures for your canine, feline, or equine friends. Prices for products start at $29.50 and cap off at $99.99.
Soft Chew Dog Treats – These treats made for your pooch come in bags of 40, and each treat contains 2mg of CBD. The website does not specify which CBD formula these are made with, and the picture of the package is too small to read the ingredients list. There is one review of this product, and the customer (named Frady Dog) had his owner tell us that he loves these tasty treats.
Canine or Feline CBD Hemp Oil Tincture – Though there are several different product listings for CBD tinctures for cats and dogs, they do not appear to be any different from each other outside of flavor. They all have 10mg of CBD per 1mL, and they are made with CBD, MCT oil and natural and artificial flavors. As with all the other tinctures made by CBD American Shaman, choose between 0.3 percent THC or no THC when placing your order.
Horse Liniment with CBD – CBD American Shaman’s horse liniment is an oil-based liniment meant to help heal your horse’s joints, muscles, hooves and any skin irritations or wounds. Sizes come in 8 ounce and 32 ounce sizes. The product page boasts 500mg of full spectrum CBD, but it is unclear whether this is per dose or per bottle.
We want our reviews to be as informative and accurate as possible, and that also requires making sure that lab results are correct as well. Especially when there is question about the company’s certificates of analysis.
We sent the 450mg Extra Strength Water Soluble full spectrum formula to an independent lab, and we were very happy to see that this product was labeled accurately.
We like to see CBD content fall within 10 percent of the stated amount on the package, and it does. There were no residual solvents and pesticides found in our sample. The one area for improvement that we see is a very common issue among CBD companies: the formula is weakly full spectrum.
These formulas are supposed to contain a stronger concentration of minor cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, CBC and even THC (up to 0.3 percent) in order to produce a stronger entourage effect. CBD American Shaman’s minor cannabinoid profile is lackluster and indicated a weakly full spectrum formula at best.

The CBD American Shaman website could use some work. As of right now, it is difficult to tell whether this company has too many products to market them successfully, or if they are as haphazard about the integrity of their products as they are about their product descriptions.
The website features a clustered selection of products, many are missing full descriptions that differentiate one product from another, details are unclear and most gummies and pet products have no list of ingredients.
In an attempt to provide convenience for customers looking for specific types of products, the website features a list of filters allowing you to search for products by THC content, CBD content, flavor and category, among other things. But even the filter options are confusing.
CBD American Shaman has one of the most complicated approaches to customer support that we’ve seen. In order to contact them, you need to fill out a rather large form that asks for extensive details, including your phone number.
After submitting it, you still do not receive a response. Instead, you are emailed instructions to go to their Freshdesk customer portal website and create an account before you can even raise a support ticket. It is a needlessly complex and user-unfriendly system.
CBD American Shaman offers a dizzying line of products, even if there is some overlap in the listings. The company claims that all of its products are responsibly grown, and it makes use of an Indigenous identity to brand itself and convey a trustworthy identity. As of the time of writing this review, however, there are some important questions about the integrity of this company’s products and practices.
There is currently a class action suit against CBD American Shaman for the discrepancy between the advertised quality of its products and the actual quality, the founder has a history riddled with hardship and crime, and the business practices are also under question with a lawsuit filed by Kirby in Ohio for American Shaman’s recruitment of door-to-door vacuum salesmen.
Despite these issues with transparency, the CBD oil we sampled was pure and free of contaminants, and it was accurately labeled. CBD American Shaman’s prices are a bit high, and their full spectrum minor cannabinoid profile was weak.
With all the questions about this company still unanswered, it is advisable to use caution when making purchases from CBD American Shaman. Especially when you should be able to find products from a more transparent company for a better price fairly easily.
