Charlotte’s Web is one of the earliest companies to produce hemp-derived CBD oil for the consumer market. The original formula was created to help a little girl named Charlotte Figi, who suffered uncontrollable seizures that did not respond to traditional medications.
The company cares about its customers, making sure that everyone has access to the healing power of botanicals; and its attention to the needs of people everywhere drives constant product improvement and innovation.
The range and variety of CBD products that Charlotte’s Web carries is impressive, and there is something for everyone in their collection. Their full spectrum formula contains more than 80 different cannabinoids, and the hemp strains they have developed for their proprietary blend are famous all over the world.
Charlotte’s Web uses their full spectrum CBD in almost everything they make, including oils, gummies, topicals, capsules and even pet products; but they also make a CBD isolate for those who simply want pure CBD and nothing else.
Charlotte’s Web touts its full spectrum formula as one of the best on the market, and this is true. However, we would like to see more balance in the cannabinoid profile. The company’s prices are very high, and it is questionable whether the product quality justifies such a steep cost.
Regardless, Charlotte’s Web is one of the most trusted CBD companies in the industry. Its integrity and emphasis on caring are its most valued attributes, and its research and development efforts continue to move the company forward in creating better CBD.
- Unmatched experience and innovation
- Formula makes use of whole hemp plant
- Products are labeled for easy dose selection
- Nutraceutical blends boost effectiveness
- Comprehensive, informative blog
- Only one product made with CBD isolate
- Products are very expensive
The Stanley brothers wanted to help little Charlotte Figi with her seizures caused by a rare form of epilepsy called Dravett’s Syndrome, so they worked to create a strain of hemp that combined concentrations of various cannabinoids until they found the right formula for her.
That was back in 2011. By 2014, they had founded Charlotte’s Web on the principle of using their botanical extracts to help as many people as possible.
The company has become the most recognized name in the industry, with one of the most trusted brands on the market. Joel Stanley, named CEO of the company, now heads up advocacy campaigns aimed at changing cannabis policy to allow people greater access to the medicinal benefits of both CBD and THC rich cannabis plant extracts.
The hemp used in the products created by Charlotte’s Web is grown on their farms in Colorado, and on family farms in Kentucky and Oregon as well. The founders are passionate about creating a high-quality product, and that starts with the best hemp they can grow.
They use specific strains meant for the different types of soil in each region of the country; and the company has foregone mechanical farming methods, instead opting for hand-tending each plant.
Charlotte’s Web ensures that all soil is clear of contaminants, and there is in-house testing every step of the way. Charlotte’s Web uses CO2 extraction for the majority of its products, but its original formula is made with an alcohol extraction process.
Charlotte’s Web states that it uses third-party labs to test its finished products, but the example results found on the website are documents created by the company itself. Additionally, you have to make a purchase in order to access lab results for any particular batch.
Shipping and Returns
For orders over $74.99, Charlotte’s Web offers free ground shipping that should take about 7 or fewer business days. For any orders under $74.99, shipping is a flat fee of $8.99. You can also order your products for next-day air or 2nd day delivery for an additional fee, and the warehouse will get your package out in the mail by the end of the business day if ordered by noon.
They will send it out the following business day if ordered after. You can have products shipped to Canada and the United States, and Charlotte’s Web also has distributors in Argentina, Asia, Brazil, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
We always appreciate when we get our CBD quickly after we make a purchase, which is why we put our order for Charlotte’s Web’s CBD oil in on a Tuesday—to avoid weekend delays. The company sent out the package the very next day, and we got our order in the mail three days after that. Not bad for free shipping.
If you are unsatisfied with your CBD products from Charlotte’s Web, you can return the unused portion within 30 days for a full refund. The company also guarantees that you will receive your product free of damage. If it gets damaged in the shipping process, they ask that you contact the company within 48 hours with a description of the damage.
Charlotte’s Web’s Products
Charlotte’s Web CBD oil is their cornerstone product. Their proprietary blend makes use of the whole plant and includes over 80 different cannabinoids.
Selecting your CBD is simple because the amount of CBD per dose is clearly marked on the bottle; many concentrations come in a sample size so you can try it out before making the investment in a larger bottle; and there are typically four flavors to choose from, though not every concentration comes in every flavor.
Standard Full Spectrum CBD Oil ($24.99 – $239.96) – Charlotte’s Web CBD oils come in concentrations ranging from 7mg to 60mg, and three bottle sizes. The larger sizes (30mL and 100mL) come in four flavors, including orange blossom, lemon twist, mint chocolate and olive oil (not every concentration comes in every flavor). The smaller size (10mL) only comes in olive oil.
Original Formula CBD ($49.99 – $119.99) – This is the formula that started it all. Charlotte’s Web original formula is made with an alcohol extraction process that leads to a denser concentration of plant compounds.
It only comes in a 50mg per dose concentration, and you can choose between 30mL or 100mL bottles, in olive oil or mint chocolate flavors. Be aware, however, that even with the added flavoring, the earthy and sometimes bitter hemp flavor is strong with this formula.
CBD Isolate ($69.99) – The company offers a CBD isolate for those who may be concerned about exposure to THC or want additional CBD in their daily regimen without other cannabinoids. The CBD isolate comes in a 30mL bottle, a 20mg dose, and it is unflavored.
Charlotte’s Web simplifies your life by offering flexibility in products. They understand you may spend most of your days on the go, and that capsules could be more convenient for you than oils. They offer one kind of gel cap, filled with full spectrum CBD oil and suspended in olive oil, for easy swallowing and quick digestion.
CBD Oil Liquid Capsules ($39.99 – $169.99) – These capsules are Kosher, vegan and allergen free. They come in 15mg and 25mg strengths, and you can order bottles of 30, 60, or 90 capsules.
CBD gummies are probably the most popular CBD product on the market, with their variety of flavors and fun options. Charlotte’s Web gummies have the added benefit of other natural ingredients mixed in, to boost CBD effects. Their gummies come in one strength—10mg per 2-gummy serving—and you can get a jar of 30 or 60 gummies.
Calm CBD Gummies ($29.99 – $44.99) – These sweet little lemon-lime flavored gems also include lemon balm and L-theanine, in addition to Charlotte’s Web whole-plant full spectrum extract. These additional ingredients are intended to help you feel calm and balanced throughout your day.
Recovery CBD Gummies ($29.99 – $44.99) – Everyone can benefit from muscle and joint support, and Charlotte’s Web recovery CBD gummies are just the thing to help reduce exercise-induced inflammation. Ginger and turmeric are added to these ginger-flavored gummies to help you feel your best even after a tough workout.
Sleep CBD Gummies ($29.99 – $44.99) – With our hectic lifestyles, we all get a little off-kilter sometimes. Charlotte’s Web CBD gummies are just the thing to help you balance out your sleep/wake cycle, with melatonin and full spectrum CBD loaded into a calming raspberry flavored gummy.
CBD topicals are an excellent choice if you have sore muscles or skin problems. Charlotte’s Web’s line of topicals include every variety that you could need, with no-mess roll-ons, thick, soothing balms, balm sticks and creams.
The company has recently expanded its line to include products targeted toward specific problems like medicated patches and acne treatment. The list has become quite extensive, so we will look at a few of the most popular.
Hemp-Infused Balm ($14.99 – $29.99) – Creamy hemp-infused balm from Charlotte’s Web is made with menthol, peppermint oil, turmeric oil, ginger oil and 450mg of full-spectrum CBD, and you can get it in two different sizes—one for travel and one for your nightstand.
Recommended to soothe dry skin on smaller, specific spots like knuckles and hands. Also comes in a balm stick for larger, more general areas like sore back and legs.
Hemp-Infused Cooling Gel ($39.99) – Infused with 510mg of CBD, menthol and arnica, this gel is formulated to help soothe away muscle soreness and inflammation, so you can keep up your fitness routine with as much joy and mindfulness as possible.
Hemp-Infused Roll-On ($14.99) – When you want a simple CBD roll-on to help you get through the day with no mess, Charlotte’s Web has you covered.
Two different formulas are made for all of your CBD topical needs. One is made with a relaxing blend of lavender, bergamot and chamomile, and the other is infused with peppermint oil, menthol, eucalyptus oil, and rosemary oil.
Charlotte’s Web cares about your pooch, too. They know that CBD is great for your furry best friend, and they have created products with Fido in mind, to help your pup feel great. They offer oils, treats and balms, so you can enjoy as many long walks together as possible.
Pet Drops ($59.99 – $149.99) – 17mg of CBD in each dose for Fido is just the right amount to keep your pet feeling fine every day.
The drops come either unflavored or chicken flavored, and you can add them to your pet’s food or water, or just squirt them right into their mouth. Bottles come in 30mL and 100mL sizes.
Hemp-Infused Pet Balm ($24.99) – This balm is perfect for pups with sensitive skin, or if they frequently come into contact with topical irritants. The balm helps maintain natural moisture in your pet’s skin, and protects it from the elements, too. Rub it in after a run through the snow for an extra reward at the end of the day for your favorite canine.
CBD Chews ($19.99 – $34.99) – Your pooch is going to love these CBD treats from Charlotte’s Web. With 2.5mg of CBD in each chicken-flavored chew, they come in three different formulas, serving your dog’s needs whatever they may be. Calming chews contain a special blend of valerian root, passionflower extract and chamomile for anxious pets.
The hip and joint formula keeps Fido feeling limber, with glucosamine, turmeric, and chondroitin in addition to CBD. And CBD chews for seniors help keep your pet’s mind sharp, with elderberry, vitamin E, and DHA. Chews come in containers of 30 or 60.
Third-party lab testing is an important step in getting an objective picture of a CBD company’s quality. We sent Charlotte’s Web’s 17mg CBD per 1mL CBD to an independent lab so we could provide a comprehensive review that helps you make informed decisions about your CBD purchases.
We found that Charlotte’s Web’s oil was pure and free of toxins and heavy metals, but it had nearly 20 percent more CBD than labeled. While almost everyone appreciates a bit of extra CBD, an acceptable margin of error is generally within 10 percent. Such a large difference between the label and the actual concentration makes precise dose measurement impossible.
Additionally, this formula could be a little more balanced. We like to see a greater amount of THC in a full spectrum formula (right up to 0.3 percent), and a more spread out cannabinoid profile is preferable. However, despite the fact that the entourage effect in this formula will be very CBC-heavy (likely due to the original formula being focused on neurological health), it is definitely potent.
Overall, we are very pleased with the lab results from this sample of Charlotte’s Web’s oil; but the company needs to work on getting its labeling closer to what is actually in the bottle. It could also stand to work on balancing out its formula to create a more comprehensive entourage effect.

The Charlotte’s Web website is aesthetically pleasing and simple to navigate. There are enough informative blog posts and videos to keep you busy for days. Each product page comes with a complete description, so you never have to wonder what you are getting.
The certificates of analysis are not easily found, however, and you have to actually have a product in hand before you can access the COA for a specific batch.
There are a lot of products featured on the site, but the Charlotte’s Web product finder simplifies the search process. Just answer three simple questions, and the site will recommend a product that should meet your needs.
We filled out the contact form on their website and got an automatic notification in our inbox that our request was received. However, they never followed up on it and actually contacted us back.
As of this writing, it’s been nearly two and a half weeks. That is simply unacceptable for any supposedly reputable CBD brand.
Charlotte’s Web is one of the original hemp-derived CBD companies on the market. This company has become a household name, and the products are generally seen as the gold standard in the industry. They offer a full line, and there is a CBD product to meet almost every need.
The company’s prices, however, are quite high. Quality and reputation definitely add value to Charlotte’s Web’s products, but customers will have to decide for themselves if those alone are justification for the added cost.
Though the company’s full spectrum formula could be a little more balanced, it is among the best we have seen. Just be prepared for an entourage effect that is heavy on CBC—which is great for people with neurological diseases.
The company has recently made its research and development arm more official with its unveiling of CW Labs, and we are excited to watch as Charlotte’s Web’s products keep getting better. We recommend giving the company’s site a visit to take a look at what one of the top companies in the CBD industry is up to and browse its products.
