Populum is one of the friendliest brands on the internet. The company works hard to live up to its name, meaning “for the people,” by putting forth an approachable and transparent image.
Poplum’s simple packaging and straightforward ingredients lists help customers feel comfortable with their CBD purchases, whether it is the first or the hundredth order.
It is nice to shop on a website that is not overcrowded with products, and Poplulum’s basic line is easy to understand. They even group products together into sets that make fitting CBD into your routine easy.
The beginner set, for example contains Populum’s CBD oil, its cold therapy rub, and a CBD oil for you to share with your pet. The company’s basic line also includes CBD capsules, face oil, and chewy snacks for your pooch.
Though the company boasts transparency, we do have a few concerns about the availability of information on the site, including official lab results. The website is filled with comforting buzzwords like transparent and sustainable, but not much information to substantiate the use of them.
Additionally, we sent a sample of CBD oil from Populum off to a third party lab to confirm for ourselves that what’s on the label is what’s in the bottle, and we found that the company’s full spectrum CBD formula is not nearly as robust as it claims.
The most troubling part of our findings, however, was that the amount of CBD was nearly twice the amount labeled. While we can always get behind a little bit of bonus CBD, 86 percent more is negligent toward the consumer and makes accurate dosing impossible.
This is likely an honest labeling mistake, but it is unacceptable when it comes to products you take for your wellness—especially coming from a company that claims to triple test all of its products and charge more than most other companies on the market.

Gunhee Park came to the US from South Korea at 15. He grew up with a great deal of health problems that his mother was always treating with natural remedies, which initiated his curiosity with hemp.
He ultimately became such a believer that he founded Populum in 2016 with the goal of providing an accessible and transparent brand. With offices in Phoenix and Omaha, Populum has expanded quickly, and it picked up the endorsement of pro boxer Terrence Crawford in 2019.
Populum sources its hemp from sustainable farms in Colorado, and there isn’t much more information than that anywhere on the internet. The company uses an ethanol extraction process, and our lab results found no traces of ethanol residue in the CBD oil.
Populum claims to test their products three times (at least one of them being with a third party lab) before sending them out to its customers, and they do provide a link on each product page to view the results.
But clicking on the link will only take you to Populum’s own documents that have reproduced the results from the independent lab, and you have to contact the company in order to get official results.
Shipping and Returns
Populum offers free shipping, and the company delivers to all 50 US states, but not internationally. Standard shipping is through the USPS, and you can expect to receive your order within five to seven business days. If you want your CBD faster, you can pay an additional $7 for expedited shipping.
Though there are no guarantees about timing for standard shipments through the USPS, we used this option and got our order very quickly. So we would not recommend paying extra for faster shipping. We ordered our CBD on a weekday early in the week, Populum sent our shipment out the next day, and we got our order two days after that—just in time for the weekend!
Populum offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee for first-time customers. This only applies to one product, so we would not suggest purchasing more than one item before you know how you feel about this company’s products.
CBD oil is the most flexible way to get your CBD. You can take just a few drops or the whole dropperful depending on your needs, and you can find it in different doses as well. Populum offers just a full spectrum CBD oil, in three doses.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil ($59 – $179) – Populum’s full spectrum CBD oil is not particularly robust, but it does hold quite a kick of CBC. The company uses a blend of grapeseed, hemp seed, and coconut oils to create a smooth feel, and orange oil for a mild flavor.
Each bottle is 30mL, and you can choose between concentrations of 250mg, 500mg, and 1000mg of CBD. We cannot say that the bottles actually contain that amount of CBD, as the 250mg bottle we sampled actually contained 465mg of CBD.
When CBD oils are inconvenient, or if you don’t like the bitter flavors of the full spectrum oil Populum offers, their capsules are a simple option that makes it easier to get your daily dose in.
Capsules are very portable, so you can toss them into your bag and go. Populum’s come in two different concentrations for added flexibility.
Full Spectrum CBD Capsules ($79 – $109) – These CBD capsules are made just with Populum’s full spectrum CBD oil and MCT oil to maximize absorption. The gelcaps come in bottles of 30, and you can choose between capsules with 15mg of CBD and 25mg of CBD each.
Topicals are an excellent way to get a targeted dose of CBD for healthier skin and quick muscle relief, but many are not necessarily as ethically made as you would like.
Populum’s CBD topicals are the answer, because both are vegan and paraben-free. Choose between a CBD face oil to give your skin a healthy glow when you wake up in the morning, or the cold therapy hemp rub to soothe sore, tired muscles.
Lavender Face Oil ($79) – Relaxing and healing, this oil is made to put on before bed, letting the aroma carry you off to sleep. Along with 250mg of CBD, Populum’s lavender face oil is made with hemp seed oil, grapeseed oil, and of course lavender. When you wake up, your skin will feel hydrated and soft.
Cold Therapy Hemp Rub ($45) – This cooling rub was made for your sore muscles after a tough workout, or just to help you relax and let go after a long day. The menthol, arnica, aloe, and chamomile are perfect complements to each other, and to the 100mg of CBD in each three ounce tube.
When you’ve got something good, of course you want to share it with your pet. CBD can help your anxious pet feel calmer and your achy pet feel more limber. Maintain your furry bestie’s wellness with a regular dose of CBD from Populum’s Zen Pet collection.
Our main word of caution here is with dosing. You want to be careful about giving your pet too much CBD, and the lack of accuracy with Populum’s labeling may make it a challenge to give your furry friend just the right amount of CBD.
Zen Pets Hemp CBD Oil ($32 – $54) – The CBD oil for pets is made with hemp seed oil, extra virgin coconut oil, and either 100mg or 250mg of full spectrum CBD to help your cat, dog, rabbit, or other furry companion feel their best.
Zen Pets Hemp CBD Chews ($49) – Populum claims in the product description that these chews are organic, but it is unclear from the ingredients list if this is true or not.
Made with 3mg of CBD in each chew, there are 70 salmon-apple flavored treats in the bag for your pup to enjoy. If you buy more than one bag at a time the price goes down.
We aim to provide the most dependable CBD company reviews on the internet, and that means gathering all the facts before we make any conclusions.
We sent a sample of Populum’s 250mg full spectrum CBD oil off to a third party lab to examine what’s in the bottle, and we have shared the results below.
As you can see, though Populum claims a full spectrum formula with this product, it is not a very robust one. We appreciate the potency of the CBC, but no other minor cannabinoids on our list are present.
Additionally, a discrepancy of up to ten percent between the amount of CBD labeled and the amount actually in the bottle is acceptable, and we are generally even more forgiving when there is more CBD than labeled rather than less; but it indicates to us that a company has no control over its process when the bottle contains nearly double the amount of CBD advertised. Populum’s 250mg bottle contained 86 percent more CBD than labeled.

Populum’s website is friendly and inviting, but the way the information is organized makes it difficult to navigate.
Ingredients lists are inconsistent, and the top menu labels are not entirely clear about what they lead to. The website is full of catch phrases and buzzwords related to CBD, but most information is vague and unsubstantial.
Though the blog offers fun advice, don’t expect to learn everything you need to know about CBD here. You may appreciate the fact that almost every product page has a button for lab results.
However, you’ll be disappointed when you find out that the only results you are ever taken to are documents created by Populum. There are no official third party lab results on the website.
The customer support we received from Populum was absolutely ideal. Gunhee Park, the founder of Populum, responded to our questions himself. His answers were enthusiastic, clear, and precise, and he linked us to various pages on their website for more details.
However, we do have a warning about contacting Populum; you will automatically get added to an email list, and they will frequently send you notifications about sales and coupon codes. It’s not something we’d mark against them, but we wish we had the option to decline at the start.
Populum is a company with a lot of potential, but there are just enough inconsistencies to make us wary of its products. The company’s name means “for the people,” and the founder set out to create a company that is completely transparent and thoughtful in everything it makes.
Populum has a simple product line made with natural ingredients and domestically-grown hemp. The website is inviting and friendly, and it offers a 30 day money back guarantee to new customers. This gives them the opportunity to try the company’s products risk-free.
All of that sounds great, and we would enthusiastically recommend Populum to our readers. However, the lab results that we got from a sample we sent to an independent lab just do not support the company’s claims.
The full spectrum formula is not as robust as the company boasts, with the only minor cannabinoid present being CBC. There are no other minor actives in the formula. Additionally, the most troubling factor is the extreme discrepancy between the labeling and our sample’s contents.
We ordered the 250mg bottle and ended up with a bottle that contained nearly double that amount. While having more CBD than labeled is better than having less, such a large discrepancy is negligent.
It may have been an honest mistake, but the pricing for Populum is premium, and there are plenty of companies out there that are far more careful to pay attention to important details like dosing.
If you are going to pay for a premium product, you should be able to expect a premium product. We don’t entirely trust that you can with Populum.
